Albert Beger
Albert Beger is a saxophone player, composer and improviser. He has been recording his sax since 1995, and throughout eight albums. His style, always conquering, challenging and demanding can be described as free-jazz/avant-garde – not only for jazz fans.
In Beger’s playing you can hear the inspirational blowings of Albert Ayler, Coleman and Coltrane, but the Mediterranean feel and mixture of elements in his music put Albert in the front line of the greatest international sax players to date. Albert draws his inspiration from the origins of the traditional Jazz and free Jazz, the diverse currents of the classical music of our times, ethnic music, and electronic music.
Albert has won many prizes for his music during the years; in 2005 he won the “Landaw” prize for performing arts and in 2009 he won the Israeli prime minister award for composers in the jazz category.
Albert has played with many known and well respected artists from Israel and from overseas that include: Harold Robin, Asif Tzahar, John Bostock, Hagi Fershtman, Joelle Leandre, James Newton and Roman Kontzman.
He also recorded and released two critically acclaimed albums with Hammid Drake, William Parker – Evolving Silence 1&2.
Albert has been performing for more than 15 years, a regular performer in Israel’s jazz festivals and was also invited to participate in international jazz festivals such as The Johannesburg Jazz Festival, Melbourne Jazz Festival and others.
